About Cayman - Island Information
Written by Admin - Cayman Web World
Welcome to the Cayman IslandsThe Cayman Islands, part of an underwater mountain range running between Cuba and Belize, lie 480 miles south of Miami, just 150 miles south of Cuba and 189 miles north-west of Jamaica. With average year-round temperature range of about 75° F in winter to about 85°F in the summer, the Caymans boasts some of the finest tropical weather in the world.  All three islands - Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac & Little Cayman - are coral outcrops surrounded by healthy coral reefs and dramatic walls close to shore, creating ideal conditions for the best diving and snorkeling found in the Caribbean.
The Cayman Islands are a British Overseas Territory. The islands are self-governed but are under the direct protection of the United Kingdom; and the Queen of England is depicted on Cayman Islands currency and postal stamps. The people here speak English, although there are many other languages spoken by its’ inhabitants.

Newsflash

Fact: The Cayman Islands has its own money
And it’s pretty, too! On the back of all notes there is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to reflect our bond to Britain, as well as the Cayman Islands Coat of Arms and Motto. The basic unit is the dollar, issued in notes with denominations of CI$100, 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1, and coins valued at 25 cents, 10, 5 and 1 cent. Since the Cayman dollar is tied to the US dollars (the exchange rate is CI$1.00 = US$1.25), US cash and travelers checks are accepted everywhere in the Cayman Islands.
